Marine Planning & Licensing
Designing and prototyping the new marine licensing journeys for the Get permission for marine work service.
Overview
I'm working on the Get permission for marine work service for the Marine Management Organisation (MMO), designing the new Exemption Notification journey from the start of alpha. The work replaces part of the legacy Marine Case Management System with a clearer, simpler flow for users and introduces automated processes that previously had to be handled manually by Business Support. This design formed the basis for the service’s progression into private beta.
Role and responsibilities
I designed the full Exemption Notification journey from the ground up, mapping the entire flow in Figma and creating a production-like prototype in the GOV.UK Prototype Kit that captures all rules, logic and interactions.
The prototype played a central role in the Alpha Service Assessment, demonstrating the end-to-end journey and enabling the team to validate the design early. It then became the source of truth for development as the service moved into private beta.
I'm now designing the next set of journeys that will be delivered as part of the private beta.
Key outcomes
Designed the end-to-end Exemption Notification journey and delivered a production-ready private beta prototype
Reduced user effort by redesigning the multi-location journey to remove repeated data entry
Created clear Figma flows and fully interactive prototypes that aligned the team and accelerated delivery

Built using the AI-accelerated workflow
This project served as the pilot for my rapid prototyping methodology, allowing me to iterate on complex logic faster than traditional methods
